How to treat FibaFuse and Fiberglass Skin Irritation

How to treat fibafuse or fiberglass irritation

Fibafuse or fiberglass irritation is a frequent issue while working with insulation or as a drywall taper. If you want a treatment for this irritation or need preventive measures, scroll down to the bottom of the page. Right now, we’ll discuss why this irritation happens.

Why does my skin get irritated when working with insulation?

Your skin may get irritated while working with insulation. The reason behind this irritation is that fiberglass insulation has glass particles used in the manufacturing of the insulation. These particles may get airborne at one point and find their way into your pores. If fiberglass particles get caught in your pores, they will cause irritation, itching, and a rash in some instances.

Why does my skin get a rash when I work with FibaFuse?

Similar to insulation, the glass dust used to manufacture insulation, the FibaFuse glass dust particles may get caught in your pores and cause your skin to become dry. Alternatively, FibaFuse may also trigger an allergic reaction in your skin when it comes in contact with you.

How do I treat FibaFuse and fiberglass insulation irritation?

There are multiple ways to treat FibaFuse and fiberglass insulation irritation. The first is preventative. When you work with these materials, wear clothes that cover you, such as long sleeve shirts, pants, and gloves.

If you still get skin irritation after using your protective equipment, it is time to move on to treatments. The first treatment requires baby powder. Baby powder is a frequent treatment for dry and itchy skin. The reason baby powder is used is that the mineral talc absorbs moisture and reduces friction in your skin.

Cold showers are another treatment for fiberglass irritation. A cold shower will close the pores in your skin, reducing the problem of fiberglass particles getting caught in your pores. Once you are done, you can have a warm shower to open your pores back up.

What are some other health risks of working with fiberglass insulation and FibaFuse?

There are two other health risks that you may encounter when working with fiberglass insulation and FibaFuse.

Eye irritation

The first is eye irritation. Just like skin irritation, eye irritation occurs when fiberglass particles make contact with your eyes, impairing your vision. The best way to combat eye irritation is to use the correct protective equipment, such as safety goggles.

Breathing Difficulties

The second concerns your breathing. While working with fiberglass materials, you may inhale fiberglass particles. Doing so may trigger asthma or bronchitis if you have had issues. Like working with wood or metal substances, these particles may cause permanent damage to young lungs if not treated properly.

We also got some suggestions from social media. Here are what some people had to say:

Revive Renos

Whenever I get the fibreglass burn and itch on my skin I was taught to take a Luke warm wash cloth and gently rub it the opposite direction of the fibreglasses entry point which you can determine by rubbing your finger up and down the effected area the direction that stings and hurts vs doesn’t is the direction you want to run the cloth also I usually add a little soap because I can’t remember if it is more effective but remember being told to use it as well in the process. Good luck

Long sleeves and gloves is best way to avoid the itch. If you’re scratching after than a shower with soap will get rid of it. Some say cold water, but I’ve never found it mattered.

Long sleeves, gloves, eye protection, and a hat will help minimize exposure.

Unless you’re wearing a hazmat suit, there’s no real way to avoid it
